Purchasing a Vehicle Guidelines

There are a few basic rules to remember when making a transaction to avoid being duped –

  1. Research the industry and car dealers to see what facilities and offers they provide without planning to purchase a vehicle.
  2. Always try to get more information from car dealers or look up the price of the vehicle you want to purchase on the internet.
  3. Choose a vehicle that meets your needs and fits within your budget. Consider the vehicle’s architecture and layout as well.
  4. Gather all of the documentation that your dealer would need when you make a purchase.
  5. If you want to get a car loan, seek professional help.

Registration of the Vehicle Purchased

Following the completion of the purchasing process, the vehicle must be registered. A registration is a type of licence or permit that enables a vehicle to be driven on public roads and highways. The procedure is straightforward; all you need to do is provide the state DMV office with a vehicle purchasing record as well as other personal records. However, you must have the state’s Certificate of Title and be at least 16 years old to register the car.

To register a car, you must have proof of ownership, such as the purchase invoice, vehicle insurance, all state and county sales taxes charged, and a damage disclosure statement. Without the Damage Disclosure Statement, the DMV office will not approve your submission. To apply for registration, you must fill out a Vehicle Registration/Title Application Form (MV-82). This form is easily obtained from the dealer’s office or from the State DMV office. You must also provide identification and proof of age to verify your identity and age.

The Procedure for Applying

A new vehicle’s Proof of Ownership would be the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin (MCO) and a Dealer’s Certificate of Sale if bought from a licenced dealer (MV-50). If the dealer refuses to register the vehicle for you, collect all relevant ownership documentation from the dealer along with a fully completed Application for Registration/Title Form (MV-82) signed by the dealer’s representative. Until closing a deal, always double-check the ownership papers.
