Well-known for being the longest-running soap opera in the Netherlands, Goedetijden, slechtetijden or simply GTST was first broadcasted on October 1, 1990 on RTL4. Said to have inspired by Reg Watson’s The Restless Years, Goedetijden has completed over 5,550 episodes in 27 seasons. It is recognised as the highest rated Dutch Soap Opera and records about 1.5 million viewers for each episode. It records a runtime of 30 minutes with commercials. Marriage, divorce, relationship, family, business are few of the ingredients of this soap opera. The plot spins around the families of Alberts, Sanders, Bouwhius, Van Houten and De Jong in a fictional town of Meerdijk. Their seasons are known to end with a cliffhangers with surprising plot twists. Ferry Doedens, Caroline de Bruijn, Erik de Vogel, KatjaSchuurman, Ruud Feltkamp are some of the well-known actors in the cast of the opera.
The soap opera is broadcasted on the RTL network from Monday to Friday at 20:00.Along these years, there have been numerous controversial plots in the series which had resulted in lot of debate. At times, the series also depicted some of the serious issues in the society like Drugs, Imprisonment, religion and Homosexuality, which had also led to controversies.

The soap opera has also won a Golden Picture award at Awards of the Dutch Academy in the year 1999. It also bagged the Golden TelVizier Ring at the TeleVizier Ring Gala in the year 1995.
